Youth with Researchers - SCIENCEIES

SOCRATCES is one of the innovative projects that collaborates with the project ‘Youth with Researchers SCIENCEIES Sevilla’ 2020

This programme involves 11 secondary schools in the province of Seville, more than 20 researchers, 18 secondary school teachers, and almost 90 secondary school students. The main objective is to show high school students what research is and how it is carried out, highlighting the importance of it in today's world. Students have the opportunity to participate in projects led by renowned scientists, learn first-hand what the scientific method is, what research is, and seek their vocation and talent from an early age.

The first session took place on the 16th January 2020. Students from several secundary schools visited the laboratories and facilities of University of Seville. There they saw the meteorological station, thermal engines laboratories and materials characterization labs. SOCRATCES project was explained with details of main principles and research activities. Students worked on main principles of energy storage and solar systems and about laboratory tasks.

The second session was held on January 28th where a group of students also from several secundary schools visited the laboratories and facilities of University of Seville. They visited the materials characterization labs on Engineering School of University of Seville and CIC Cartuja. They also saw materials characterization experiments used in Socratces project and their link with systems simulation activities.

The third session was on the 13th February. In this session sthe students spent the morning with members of Socratces project. They used simulating tools for solar systems (SAM) and they analysed experimental data with calcination and carbonation of different materials.

The next session will be on 4th April and the 6th Young Congress with Researchers will take place on June in Málaga. (More information will follow soon!)
